What is Transcribe?
Transcribe is a new feature that converts your audio tracks into text, letting you export transcripts in multiple formats directly from the app. Once rolled out, you can transcribe up to 10 tracks per day with a maximum track duration of 30 minutes.
Availability
Transcribe is available once the feature has been rolled out to you. When it's ready, you'll be prompted to enable it the next time you open the app.
Note: As of August 2026, Transcribe is available on Dolby On iOS app v2.0 or newer only. Access is enabled for a randomly selected group of users as part of a phased rollout.
Enabling Transcribe
At App Launch:
When you open the app, a New Features popup will appear in Main audio screen.
Please read the notice carefully before enabling these new features and ensure that you agree to the terms.
Then tap Agree to unlock Transcribe.
Note: Agreeing to the new features popup at app launch will also automatically enable Intelligent Search in your Settings.
From a Track:
If you miss the popup at launch, you can still enable Transcribe from within a track:
- Open any track
- Go to Tools
- Tap Transcribe
- The New Features popup will appear — tap Agree to proceed. Note: Enabling Transcribe this way will not automatically enable Intelligent Search in Settings.
If you already agreed at app launch, tapping Transcribe from Tools will take you directly to the Transcribe screen — no popup will appear again.
Understanding Your Daily Limits
Before you start transcribing, here's what you need to know about usage limits:
| Limit | Details |
|---|---|
| Tracks per day | 10 tracks |
| Max track duration | 30 minutes |
Important:
- Tracks longer than 30 minutes cannot be transcribed — trimming and re-transcribing will not work around this limit
- Each track can only be transcribed once
- Transcription applies to the full track duration — partial transcription is not supported
- If Intelligent Search is enabled, tracks may be automatically transcribed while the Dolby On app is running. As a result, a portion of your daily quota may be used, but it will not consume your entire daily allowance. A dedicated portion of the quota is reserved for manual transcription (Transcribe) requests.
How to Transcribe a Track
Once you've accepted the new features popup, follow these steps to manually transcribe a track:
- Open a track from your library
- Navigate to Tools
- Tap Transcribe
- Tap the Start Transcription button
- A loading indicator will appear, followed by a transcription progress display
For best results:
- Keep the app open and in the foreground during transcription — running it in the background or force-quitting the app may slow down the process or cause transcription to fail.
- Make sure you have a stable network connection before starting
While transcription is in progress, you're free to continue using other parts of the app — recording, exporting, and other tasks will work normally.
Exporting Your Transcript
Once transcription is complete, reopen the track and you'll see the Export Transcript button displayed.
- Tap Export Transcript
- Choose your preferred file format:
- TXT (default)
- VTT
- SRT
- Save or share your transcript using any of the following options:
- Save to Files
- Use AirDrop or any other available app from the share sheet
